Compress PDF
Reduce the size of your PDF so it can be sent via email or uploaded through a form. The processing takes place in your browser—the file isn't sent anywhere.
Drag the PDF here
or · up to 100 pages
Once compressed, the text becomes an image: it cannot be selected or found using a search. This doesn't matter for scans and photos, but for text documents, it's best to compress them only when necessary.
The file is processed in your browser and is not downloaded anywhere.
When the tool can help
- Scans and photos of documents. This is where the biggest savings come from: these 90% PDFs consist of images.
- Presentations with large images.
- The file exceeds the size limit via email or the form on the website.
What You Should Know in Advance
The tool converts pages into images and compiles them into a new PDF. This means two things. First, the file size is reduced significantly because all unnecessary elements—embedded fonts, invisible layers, and metadata—are removed. Second: text ceases to be text — It won't be possible to select, copy, or find it using the search function.
For scans, photos, and documents “to be printed,” this isn’t a problem. For a contract where someone will be searching for a specific clause—it’s better to keep the original.
Which settings should I choose?
| Settings | What is it for? |
|---|---|
| 150 dpi | The file will be sent to print—the details will be preserved |
| 110 dpi | Email, instant messaging, screen sharing. The best option in most cases |
| 72 dpi | We have to stay within a strict budget; quality is secondary |
| Grade 70% | JPEG standard: There's no noticeable difference from the 90%, and the file size is half as large |
If the file size hasn't decreased
This sometimes happens with documents that consist of plain text without images—they’re already small, and converting them to images can actually increase their size. In this case, try 72 dpi and quality setting 50%; if that doesn’t help, there’s no point in compressing them.
